In Velden at Lake Wörthersee, night is turned into day: the small “metropolis” is characterized by an exciting and vibrant nightlife. Before the night owls head to the clubs, they can enjoy cocktails or snacks in one of the many cafés, bars and restaurants. And when others go to bed, that’s when things really get going in Velden – the legendary SWITCH is the place to party and dance until 02:00 in the morning. Velden – the place to be for night owls.
LE CAFE
Enjoy selected coffee specialties from Schärf, Italian snacks and antipasti, exquisite pastries, ice cream and much more right on the best square in Velden – our “Le Café” is the perfect place to watch the hustle and bustle around Lake Wörthersee. Outside, a glass canopy protects against rain, while a large awning provides plenty of shade in summer. Le Café is a meeting place for anyone who wants a good atmosphere and music but doesn’t want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the nightclubs.

SWITCH is the place to be for the young and young at heart who want to enjoy unforgettable party nights. From 18:00, the bar attracts visitors with cool beats, events and drinks – a good mood and great atmosphere are guaranteed at SWITCH right in the heart of Velden. SCHINAKL
Anyone who has ever been to Velden has probably been to the Schinakl or at least heard of it: the cult bar in the heart of Velden is part of the SWITCH hotspot as an outdoor area and is absolutely unmissable thanks to the bar counter in the shape of a ship. The place for everyone who is in the mood for lots of good vibes, music and fun – at Schinakl you’ll always find a great atmosphere.

It is this very special flair that makes Velden a real lifestyle hotspot. The popular promenade in the heart of the town is characterized by small boutiques, chic cafés and great bars. On vacation, you almost stumble from one store to the next, then make yourself comfortable on the promenade with a drink and watch the hustle and bustle in the lively town center. Then it’s time for a sundowner on a boat trip on Lake Wörthersee and to top it all off, it’s off to dinner at the award-winning restaurant “Die Yacht”.

The center of Velden is lined with one boutique after another – from Italian fashion and accessory stores to high-end boutiques, you will find a great selection of stores in the immediate vicinity of the CasinoHotel. When in Velden, a stroll along the promenade is almost a must. There is always something going on on the Mile, especially in summer. Street artists entertain the public, a colorful program of events for young and old offers entertainment every day and, of course, seeing and being seen is simply part of Velden.
A TRIP BY BOAT
At Lake Wörthersee, instead of island hopping, you simply “place hop” – the Lake Wörthersee boats take you to your favourite places around the lake in comfort and style between the end of March and the end of October. An unforgettable upgrade is provided by the regular Sunday brunch or the Captain’s Barbecue on board.

Sports at Lake Wörthersee
Swimming, water skiing, cycling, golfing… the list of possible sports activities around Lake Wörthersee is virtually endless – whatever the season. Our private lake access is a dream for every water lover. If you like it even more sporty, simply hire an e-bike from our partner and explore the region by bike. Golfers can relax on one of the five golf courses around Lake Wörthersee and on other courses in the surrounding area. If you want to take it a little easier, take one of the recommended slow trails, hike at your own pace and enjoy the incredible landscape.

Our picturesque village is the ideal starting point for e-bike adventures around Lake Wörthersee. We cooperate with the Uran Bikeshop in Velden, where you can test and rent high-quality bikes and e-bikes. FROM HIGHLIFE TO SLOWTRAIL
The hustle and bustle in Velden can sometimes get a bit much – slow down and relax in front of the beautiful green natural backdrop around Lake Wörthersee on one of the four Wörthersee “Slow Trails”. On easy hikes between three and six kilometers in length, the focus is on regeneration – in between, lovingly designed stations along the way (e.g. swings and hammocks) invite you to take a short break.
Places to see
From the highest wooden observation tower in the world to a detour to the Minimundus to an excursion into the world of the Celts. From the CasinoHotel Velden, you can reach excursion destinations, sights and many other “must-sees” around Lake Wörthersee in just a few minutes. A detour across the border to Slovenia or Italy is also worthwhile for a longer stay. Sightseeing
HIGH UP ON THE PYRAMIDENKOGEL
The Pyramidenkogel is something of an unofficial landmark around Lake Wörthersee – the 100-metre-high tower is the highest wooden observation tower in the world and offers a spectacular 360-degree view of Lake Wörthersee, the mountains and the entire region. In addition to the viewing tower, there is also an extensive children’s playground. An experience not to be missed during a visit to Velden.
ADVENTURE IN THE FOREST
The Wörthersee forest rope park promises fun for the whole family. After a safety briefing and equipped with a helmet and harness, balance from tree to tree, over ropes and suspension bridges while enjoying the view of the lake. Incidentally, there is a special age-appropriate children’s course for younger visitors.
MEDIEVAL FLAIR AT LANDSKRON CASTLE
The medieval Landskron Castle is an absolute must-see in Carinthia and one of the most imposing castles in Austria. Birds of prey shows are held in the warmer months and the castle was voted the “most beautiful place in Austria” in a television program as recently as 2023. So a day trip to the castle is definitely worthwhile!
Only those who occasionally wander off the beaten track will discover real insider tips and hidden places – and yes, there are plenty of them around Lake Wörthersee. The Wishing Tree on the Kathreinkogel for example, is one such spot that you shouldn’t miss. It is also worth making a detour to the Sternbergwhere Celts and Romans have already left their mark – breathtaking panorama included. You can also enjoy pure natural idyll with a walk through the Veldener “Teufelsgraben” (Devil’s Ditch) where you can also find the Wörthersee Yoga trail at the same time.
